they're the glued-to-your-head kind, human hair. i want them purple-ish violet, but can i dye them and the rest of my hair while they're in!?

I would say "NO". That is what I was also told when I had mine in. The hair is different than your own and it will not take color the way it should. They are expensive to replace so you better go to the salon for such a thing.
