How do I put 'stripes' in hair extensions (100% human)?

Racoon stripe-kind of things.

Someone said something to me about putting masking tape around the bit you want to do or something crazy like that. Or a sponge?

Please help!

I know you can buy them, but I'd rather do it myself.

Just cover the parts that you don't want colored with tape or something. And color the exposed parts of the hair.
