they don't. the skin shrinks giving the hair and nails the appearance of having grown.

When a human dies, why is it that their hair and nails still grow for a period of 3 days after their death?

Because we have quit abusing them!

As I recall, they don't actually keep growing. Its just that the flesh shrink and shrivels making the nails and hair appear longer. This is what I remember from Biology. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think they grow. The skin and scalp shrink back from decomposition, so it only appears that the hair and nails are bigger and longer.

When a human dies, why is it that their hair and nails still grow for a period of 3 days after their death?

They don't. What happens is that as the body decomposes, it shrivels, which gives hair and nails the impression of growing.

When a human dies, why is it that their hair and nails still grow for a period of 3 days after their death?

They don't. That old tale started because the dead tissues retract, and the hair and nails are covered at the base by less tissue, giving the appearance of continued growth.

They dont that is only a myth.

They don't grow, the skin shriks.

When a human dies, why is it that their hair and nails still grow for a period of 3 days after their death?

They do not. The reason it appears this way is that, upon death, the tissue surrounding the hair and nails begins immediately to "dehydrate" and shrink. This process continues for up to a few days, causing the skin to recede from the base of the nails and the roots of the hair and making it appear that they are growing.

When a human dies, why is it that their hair and nails still grow for a period of 3 days after their death?

no they don't grow, they only appear to grow. when your body stops functioning, EVERYTHING stops. blood cools down and the body no longer has oxygen for growth or signs of life.

When a human dies, why is it that their hair and nails still grow for a period of 3 days after their death?

Hairs and nails do not grow after death. Dehydration(loss of water from tissues) make tissues shrink and hairs and nails seem falsaly elongated

When a human dies, why is it that their hair and nails still grow for a period of 3 days after their death?

As the body dries out the skin recedes and gives the appearance that hair and nails are growing

They're not it just looks that way

Its all in forensic science on TV
